Northwood will play its first gig at The Water Rats on July 15th. This is the band I play in with Søren Munk, Mihai Cucos and Will Byers. We play Søren's songs: the same ones he and I have been arranging and recording in Eynsham, Brede, Navarino Road, Belsize Park, Stanton Harcourt and Delly End, since we met in 1995. We're seeking a drummer, though we've been lucky to have rehearsed with some celebrity stand-ins; this gig we'll be playing with Barney Rockford from The Auteurs.
I haven't been to The Water Rats, which was described to me by the web manager from one of Torchbox's new clients as 'a dive... a good dive'. It's a small converted pub in London's King's Cross, with a heritage: Oasis and The Pogues debuted at The Water Rats, and Bob Dylan gave his first UK performance there in 1962.
